# FileOpener help centre --- > Guides, steps, tips and common questions for FileOpener, in full. Landing page: https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener --- # Back up your FileOpener library or move it to another computer > Export the library as a JSON file or as a bundle frame on the canvas, then import it elsewhere and choose which folders and files to bring in. ## Goal Keep a copy of your saved files, or give your folders to a teammate or a second computer, since the library is stored only on your own device. ## Before you start - Files saved in FileOpener. ## Steps 1. **Open Import & Export** Click ⋯ in FileOpener and choose Import & Export. 2. **Export as a file** Choose Export Templates as JSON. A file called fileopener-export-.json downloads. 3. **Or export to the canvas** Choose Export Templates to Canvas. A frame called FileOpener Export with the date appears on the page, holding your whole library. Copy it into any Figma file to pass it on. 4. **Import** On the other side, choose Import Templates… and pick the JSON file, or select the export frame on the canvas with FileOpener open (or open FileOpener with it selected). 5. **Review and apply** The Import Templates window marks every folder and file as Added, Changed, Removed or Unchanged. Switch off what you do not want and click Import Selected. ## Tips - Without Overwrite, nothing is deleted: items shown as Removed are only listed for comparison. - An export contains every link in your library. Share it only with people who may open those files. ## Result The same folders and files in FileOpener on the other computer or for the other person. ## If something goes wrong - **"Failed to read import file. Please verify the JSON format."** -> Use the file exactly as FileOpener exported it; it may have been changed or cut off. - **My own files are gone after an import.** -> Overwrite all existing templates and file keys was on, which replaces the whole library with the import. Import your own backup again to get them back. ## Common questions ### Does my FileOpener library sync between computers? No. It is stored on each device. Use Export and Import to copy it. ### Can my team share one library? Not live. Export the library to the canvas or as JSON and let teammates import it; later changes need a new export. ## Related guides - [Organize saved Figma files with folders, tags and search](https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-organize-library): Create folders, drag files into them, add tags, descriptions and notes, then find anything with search or the tag filter. - [Save the Figma file you have open to FileOpener](https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-save-file): Open the folder you want, click Add, and paste the file's share link the first time FileOpener asks for it. --- Source: https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-export-import (FileOpener help centre). Reviewed: 2026-10-30. --- # Open a saved file or a whole folder, also without the plugin window > Click a file to open it, use Open all files on a folder, or type a file or folder name in Figma's Quick Actions. ## Goal Jump to the files you use most, or open every file of a project at once, in a couple of keystrokes. ## Before you start - Files saved in FileOpener. ## Steps 1. **Open one file** In FileOpener, click a file, or use its Open file button. Figma opens the saved link and FileOpener says "Opening" with the file's name. 2. **Open a whole folder** Hover a folder and click Open all files, or choose Open All Files in its ⋯ menu. Every saved file in the folder and its subfolders opens at once. 3. **Open a file from Quick Actions** Press Ctrl/Cmd+/ in Figma, run Open Figma Document… and start typing. FileOpener suggests up to 12 saved files, most recently changed first, matching their title, folder or link. Press Enter to open one. 4. **Open a folder from Quick Actions** Run Open Figma Document Set… and pick a folder from the list (up to 10 folders that hold files). All its files open, and FileOpener says how many. ## Tips - Open all files opens every file in all subfolders too, so keep big folders split into smaller ones. - Quick Actions remember their list for about 30 seconds; a file you just saved appears shortly after. ## Result The files open in Figma without you searching for them in the file browser. ## If something goes wrong - **Clicking a file opens a Figma search instead of the file.** -> The saved link does not start with https://www.figma.com/. Open the file's ⋯ menu > General Details and paste the full link from Share > Copy link into Figma URL. - **A saved file opens the wrong document.** -> Check the link in ⋯ > General Details > Figma URL and paste the right one from Share > Copy link. - **"No saved files found" in Quick Actions.** -> Save at least one file in FileOpener first. ## Common questions ### Can I open a FileOpener folder with a keyboard shortcut? Yes. Open Quick Actions with Ctrl/Cmd+/ and run Open Figma Document Set…, then pick the folder. ### Does the saved link open a specific frame? Links FileOpener saves itself point to the frame you had selected when you clicked Add, or to the page you were on. Links you paste by hand open the file. ## Related guides - [Save the Figma file you have open to FileOpener](https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-save-file): Open the folder you want, click Add, and paste the file's share link the first time FileOpener asks for it. - [Organize saved Figma files with folders, tags and search](https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-organize-library): Create folders, drag files into them, add tags, descriptions and notes, then find anything with search or the tag filter. --- Source: https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-open-files (FileOpener help centre). Reviewed: 2026-10-30. --- # Organize saved Figma files with folders, tags and search > Create folders, drag files into them, add tags, descriptions and notes, then find anything with search or the tag filter. ## Goal Keep a growing list of Figma files tidy, for example one folder per client or per template set. ## Before you start - Files saved in FileOpener. ## Steps 1. **Create a folder** Click New. A folder called New Folder with a number appears in the folder you are viewing. Double-click its name to rename it; Enter saves, Escape cancels. 2. **Move files by drag and drop** Drag a file onto a folder to move it there, or onto Home or a parent folder in the breadcrumb to move it up. Drag a folder onto another folder to nest it. 3. **Edit the details** Open a file's ⋯ menu (or right-click it) and choose General Details to change its Title, Figma URL and Description, or Edit Notes for internal notes. 4. **Add tags** Choose Manage Tags, type a tag and press Enter or a comma. Tags are saved in lower case. Click Save Tags. 5. **Search** Type in Search files and folders... to search the whole library by name, description and tags. Click a folder in the results to open it. 6. **Filter by tags** Click the Filter by tags button and pick one or more tags. Only items that have all the chosen tags stay visible; Clear filters shows everything again. ## Tips - While you drag, a bar with Delete and New Folder appears. Dropping a file on New Folder creates a folder for it. - Dropping on Delete removes the file, or the folder with everything in it, at once and without undo. Export a backup first if you are tidying up a lot. - Switch between List view, Compact grid and Large grid in the toolbar. ## Result A library you can browse by folder and narrow down by search or tags. ## If something goes wrong - **A folder disappears when I filter by a tag.** -> The filter looks at the folder's own tags, not at the files inside it. Tag the folder too, or search for the tag instead. - **Search does not find words from my notes.** -> Search covers names, descriptions and tags. Put words you want to find in the description. ## Common questions ### Why are my tags in lower case? FileOpener treats tags as case-insensitive and stores them in lower case, so Client and client are the same tag. ### Where do I see a file's notes? In its ⋯ menu > Edit Notes. Notes are not shown in the list. ## Related guides - [Save the Figma file you have open to FileOpener](https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-save-file): Open the folder you want, click Add, and paste the file's share link the first time FileOpener asks for it. - [Open a saved file or a whole folder, also without the plugin window](https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-open-files): Click a file to open it, use Open all files on a folder, or type a file or folder name in Figma's Quick Actions. - [Back up your FileOpener library or move it to another computer](https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-export-import): Export the library as a JSON file or as a bundle frame on the canvas, then import it elsewhere and choose which folders and files to bring in. --- Source: https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-organize-library (FileOpener help centre). Reviewed: 2026-10-30. --- # Save the Figma file you have open to FileOpener > Open the folder you want, click Add, and paste the file's share link the first time FileOpener asks for it. ## Goal Bookmark a Figma or FigJam file, such as a template, a design system or a client project, so you can reopen it in one click. ## Before you start - FileOpener installed from Figma Community. - The file you want to save open in Figma or FigJam. ## Steps 1. **Open FileOpener in that file** Run FileOpener from the Plugins menu while the file you want to save is open. 2. **Go to the right folder** Click a folder to open it. Add saves into the folder you are looking at; at Home the file is saved without a folder. 3. **Click Add** If FileOpener already knows this file's link, the file is saved right away with a link to the frame you have selected, or to the current page, and you see "File saved with shareable link 🔗". 4. **Paste the link the first time** If a Connect window opens instead, copy the file's link in Figma (Share > Copy link), paste it into Figma File URL and click Save File. FileOpener says "Connected file key for" and the file name. 5. **Click Add again** Connecting only teaches FileOpener the file's link. Click Add once more to save the file to your library. From now on, Add works straight away in this file. ## Tips - Select the frame you want to land on before you click Add: the saved link opens the file at that frame. - Clicking Add twice saves the file twice. Delete the extra entry by dragging it onto Delete. ## Result The file is in your library under the file's name, ready to open with one click. ## If something goes wrong - **I clicked Save File but the file is not in my list.** -> Save File connects the link; it does not save the file yet. Click Add again. - **"Error: Invalid input: Please provide a valid Figma URL or file key"** -> Paste the full link from Share > Copy link, for example https://www.figma.com/design/…, or just the file key from it. - **Pressing Enter in the link field does nothing.** -> Click Save File instead. ## Common questions ### Why does FileOpener ask me for the file's link? Plugins from Figma Community usually cannot read a file's address themselves. You paste it once per file, and FileOpener remembers it in that file. ### Can I save any Figma file? Yes, any Figma Design or FigJam file you can open. FileOpener stores its link, not its content. ### Where is my library stored? On your computer, in Figma's storage for the plugin. It is not stored in the Figma file and is not shared with teammates; use Export & Import to move it. ### Does FileOpener open PDFs or images? No. It saves and opens links to Figma and FigJam files. ## Related guides - [Open a saved file or a whole folder, also without the plugin window](https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-open-files): Click a file to open it, use Open all files on a folder, or type a file or folder name in Figma's Quick Actions. - [Organize saved Figma files with folders, tags and search](https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-organize-library): Create folders, drag files into them, add tags, descriptions and notes, then find anything with search or the tag filter. --- Source: https://raiken.io/kb/fileopener/fileopener-save-file (FileOpener help centre).
