Satori #1: A Creative Reset Far From Home

We’re setting off on a delightfully tingling journey into the unknown, somewhere between anticipation and reverence as we begin our uxactly adventure. What felt so distant just a few months ago is now suddenly close.

Out of nowhere, a sense of uncertainty spreads, and the questions echo louder and louder:

  • Will we be able to fill the next two months meaningfully?
  • What do we actually want to do?
  • What if we can’t motivate ourselves?
  • How are we supposed to continue afterwards?
  • Can we even afford this?
  • What will our clients think?
  • Will we manage to follow our own design processes?
  • Will we sabotage each other?
  • Will my girlfriend have completely redesigned the apartment by then? Will I manage without her?
  • How will our friends and families be doing during that time?
  • What will I miss?

With over 16 years of professional experience, I’m surprised to realize that I’ve never had this much freedom — for as long as I can remember, the next project or the next client was always already waiting at the door. A break wasn’t even an option during those 16 years.
Now the moment has come: we’ve decided to hit the brakes and dip a toe into uncharted territory. It’s time — the adventure may begin.

Satori – the experience of enlightenment in Zen Buddhism.

For us, Satori stands for creativity and self‑realization. During this time, we wanted to work on existing ideas while also establishing new products and processes.
How often have you thought: “This or that would be a great idea?”
For us, it happened far too often in recent years — and the ideas always disappeared into the ether of daily business.
That’s why we’re even more excited to finally have the chance to pursue them actively.

Half‑time in Taiwan, final crowning in Bangkok!

Digital Nomad Score Map – Taiwan

As our destination for Satori, we deliberately chose Taiwan and Bangkok for the following reasons:

  • Far away from everything that could distract us
  • A changed environment to absorb new external influences
  • A strong Nomad Score to connect with like‑minded people — helping us expand our own horizons beyond our familiar comfort zone

Think of it like a detox: if you want to change something, the best way is to detach yourself from everything that normally surrounds you — and prevent your brain from slipping back into old patterns.

Two months and one backpack? ?

Photos from last year’s Japan trip (2018)

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not a fan of excess — I always try to focus on the essentials, and this trip was no exception.
My entire gear, including clothing for two months, had to fit into a single backpack!
What you see in the photo above is literally all there is.
For anyone interested, there will be a separate article in the coming days where I go into detail about the equipment (I’ll link it once it’s live).

Goals and wishes

Pomodoro Timer – Uxactly

For years, we’ve dreamed of creating our own products and giving something back to the world.
With all the learning we plan to do, we certainly want to achieve more than simply returning home with a collection of great experiences — we want to launch a few experiments and see how the market responds.
What exactly? Unfortunately, I can’t reveal that just yet, but there will definitely be more information in the coming weeks.

Many questions, but only one answer: we’ll see!
In any case, it will be an exciting ride with many uncertain stops — each one helping us refine our processes and projects even further.
I’m already looking forward to sharing everything we learn along the way! ?
